How to book a freighter cruise

Booking a cargo / freighter ship cruise is not quite as simple as booking a normal cruise. Most run to a fairly regular schedule however this can change depending on the freight being transported. This means ports of call may change, as well as the amount of time spent in a port. 

  • Contact us with your desired route.
  • We will get in touch with the shipping company to find availability.
  • We will get back in contact with you and send you the booking form which we need completed with your deposit. 
  • You will have one week to pay your deposit to secure your cabin.  We will require a 25% deposit plus a AUD$100 non-refundable booking fee up front (within the week) with the balance due 60 days prior to departure. 
  • We can also book your flights and pre/post cruise accommodation or any other travel requirements (e.g. rail).

Booking Conditions apply:

  • Prices shown are approximate and in Australian Dollars but at time of booking are converted from Euro. You will always pay at the exchange rate of the day.
  • Trip durations shown are approximate
  • Passengers must be able to negotiate stairs well because accommodation and facilities are spread over several decks, Some ships may have an elevator.
  • Passage fare includes shipping company’s deviation insurance and port charges.
  • Fare includes all meals on board.
  • Yellow fever injection and travel insurance are compulsory.
  • Passengers must be in possession of a valid passport with at least 6 months validity.

Cancellation Conditions:

Cancellation by the passenger for any reason is subject to the following cancellation charges (subject to shipping company):

  • up to 61 days prior to departure - from AUD500 to loss of deposit paid
  • 60 to 30 days prior to departure - 25% of the fare
  • 30 to 01 days prior to departure - 50% of the fare
  • No refund is available when cancellation advice is received on the day of departure or once the voyage has commenced.    No refund is paid for early disembarkation.
  • You must have comprehensive Travel Insurance which will include cancellation cover due to medical, family crisis and other substantial reasons not to travel.

Passage Contract

Bookings are accepted subject to the terms and conditions of the passenger ticket and passenger contract and published booking conditions.   Copy of the terms and conditions are provided at time of confirmation.

Health and Age Restrictions

Only passengers of good physical and mental health can be accepted for carriage on container ships.   We cannot accept passengers once they turn 80 years of age. Passengers should be aware that container ships do not usually carry a doctor – only basic first aid treatment is available.

Medical Certificate

All passengers must have their doctor complete the medical questionnaire which will be sent with your confirmation letter – this is to be done only 60 days prior to the sailing date.


Please speak to your doctor regarding immunisation questions. Yellow fever is generally compulsory due to you coming into contact with the crew (not based on the ports you visit).
